New Release: Cryptic Writings!

Here it is! 12 new kicking ass songs, very different from the CTE and Youthanasia style. Personally I retain this album a kind of Megadeth's "Load" with new strange musical influences, maybe from that Exotic Metal which Marty Friedman loves a lot. The complex isn't really metal, it's pretty hard rock, with cool riffs like "The Disintegrators" and "Vortex" ones. But let's check a track-by-track review:

Here It Is!

  1. Trust (Mustaine/Friedman) 5.11
This is the opener of the album. It reflects what said before about the Marty's influences about Exotic Metal (see the central riff). Very radiophonic one, sure not one of the best Megadeth songs.
  2. Almost Honest (Mustaine/Friedman) 4.03
I HATE this song. It has no sound, no nothing! Another radiophonic, MTV-commercial song. Bleah!
  3. Use The Man (Mustaine/Friedman) 4.38
It would have been a very cool ballad if it wasn't for the too much powerful end. It remains a good song, with cool lyrics. Check It Out!
  4. Mastermind (Mustaine) 3.46
I could call it the song of non-sense. It is horrible, definitely I don't like it. It's somehow a cross between techno and hard rock.
  5. The Disintegrators (Mustaine)2.50
This REALLY KICKS ASS! Powerful riff, incredible speed, probably the best song of the record... I'm sure you'll agree with me...
  6. I'll get even (Mustaine/Ellefson/Friedman/Howe) 4.24
Not so bad, a cool base riff wich reminds me some Pink Floyd stuff. Check it out!
  7. Sin (Mustaine/Menza/Ellefson) 3.06
This song isn't very bad, but it has nothing to remember. I think this is a sort of "fill" song. Maybe I'm wrong... bah...
  8. A Secret Place (Mustaine) 5.25
Interesting, pretty cool the Sitar riff. It gives the song something "Indian", another influence by Marty's exotic melodies, I guess.
  9. Have Cool, Will Travel (Mustaine) 3.25
In an interwiew Dave Mustaine told that he wrote this song after dreaming Nick Menza, who was destroying his guitars. So the dream goes on with Dave that makes Nick going away form the band and as last words to him, Dave says: "Have Cool, Will Travel" ARGHHH!!!
  10. She Wolf (Mustaine) 3.38
Very kicking ass song, like The Disintegrators, it was written about the Producer's Wife, which was very quarrelsome.
  11. Vortex (Mustaine) 2.38
Really a "Vortex", with a lot of strange sounds, it kicks ass. Check it out!
  12. FFF (Mustaine/Friedman/Ellefson/Menza) 2.38
Someone said the riff of the song is similar to Metallica's "Motorbreath" from "Kill'em All". Very cool, kicking ass. Check it out!
